A few months ago I saw a post on Facebook that caught my attention. I think it was from Douglas Clegg. Anyway, he talked about this simple word processor that he uses and recommended it to anyone who loves to write. It's called a NEO and it's nothing more than a keyboard and a 4x40 LCD screen with some spell checking built in. The reason he recommended it is because while you are typing on a NEO you aren't sidetracked by email, solitaire, Facebook, MySpace, farmville, or the Choate Road Forum.

It's been on my mind since then so today I went online in search of a cheap one. The NEOs run about $149.00, but I know how I am with gadgets so I wanted to get a cheaper one to see if I would actually use it. I found one of NEO's predecessors for around $50.00. It's an Alphasmart 2000 from 1997. It can hold 120k words in 8 files. I figure that if I like this and am still using it six months from now I will break down and buy a NEO.

Anybody else use one of these things to write with? If so, would you recommend it?
